We are pleased to share the second ScanCorder Application Note, part of our growing series at Compolytics. This note explores how spectral vegetation indices (VIs) can be used to monitor nitrogen responses in Agave americana — a crop of rising importance for biofuels, fibres, and beverages.
Using the ScanCorder GP-VNIR, researchers measured reflectance from agave leaves treated with five nitrogen levels. Fifteen key VIs showed significant variation, revealing physiological changes in chlorophyll, carotenoids, moisture, and stress indicators.
The results confirm that the COMPOLYTICS® ScanCorder enables fast, non-destructive tracking of nutrient effects — supporting more sustainable agave farming.
A big thank you to our collaborators at the University of Adelaide, in particular Prof Rachel Burton, Dr Matt Salomon, and Dr Juanita Lauer.
